Anchorage School Board members rally around Rachel Blakeslee

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Five sitting Anchorage School Board members have endorsed Rachel Blakeslee for Seat C, along with local leaders and community members. A former teacher and longtime advocate for public education, Blakeslee is running for Seat C for the strong, stable schools Anchorage students deserve.

Blakeslee was inspired to run after years of seeing Anchorage’s students, teachers, and schools under strain, and through her work with community groups and leaders to address major challenges in public education. Her experience organizing alongside parents and advocates to save her daughter’s elementary school from closure in 2024, and to secure a BSA increase in 2025, underscored the importance of community voices in public education. With two seats open in 2026, she wants to ensure the future board stays focused on kids and families. Blakeslee plans to bring a balance of data-driven analysis and community-minded decision making to the Anchorage School Board.

“I’m proud to endorse Rachel Blakeslee for School Board. Rachel will lead by keeping our students at the core of every decision. Our students, staff and families deserve board members who are accessible, accountable and courageous. Rachel is all three.”
- Margo Bellamy, Anchorage School Board Vice President

“Rachel will be a tremendous asset to the Anchorage School Board. She’s a smart, approachable former educator who has tirelessly advocated for the resources needed to get students on track, to grow and retain a diverse teacher workforce and to foster nurturing learning environments needed to help all kids thrive. After all this time, she remains deeply committed to improving ASD’s accessibility and accountability to the community through improved communication.”
- Kelly Lessens, Anchorage School Board Treasurer

“A great candidate and will make a greater school board member. Rachel understands the issues and will help us improve outcomes. I’ve been on the school board for 14 years and never met a candidate better prepared to represent the public from day one.”
- Pat Higgins, Anchorage School Board member

Blakeslee is proud to also have the support of school board members Carl Jacobs and Andy Holleman. As support grows for Blakeslee’s race for Seat C, she looks forward to the opportunity to deliver meaningful change for Anchorage students, families and educators.

“I’m honored to have the support of these dedicated leaders,” said Blakeslee. “Anchorage’s students, families and educators deserve a board that collaborates and delivers. I’m excited to work with the School Board to build a strong future for our schools.”
